POWER-E-COM Partner Meeting: Spain Tackles Energy Community Challenges

The POWER-E-COM project is pleased to share a new YouTube video featuring insights from Francisco Puente of ESCAN, Spain!

This video dives into the “Landscape Analysis” – a collaborative effort where project partners from six European countries analyze the national landscapes for energy communities. Mr. Puente sheds light on the exciting momentum for energy communities in Spain, while acknowledging the hurdles that need to be addressed.

Financing and Administrative Barriers:

  • Financing presents a significant challenge for new energy communities due to their limited assets and lack of financial history.
  • Simplifying administrative procedures is crucial to expedite the establishment of energy communities.

Exploring Alternative Models:

The Power-e-com project is actively exploring creative solutions alongside traditional energy communities:

  • “Pseudo Energy Communities”: Exploring alternative legal structures that achieve similar goals as defined energy communities.
  • Collective Self-Consumption Models: Investigating models where a single entity, like a company with a photovoltaic (PV) plant, shares energy with a community, replicating some of the benefits of energy communities.

Identification of Opportunities:

POWER-E-COM recognizes the potential of these alternative models to complement established energy communities, ultimately fostering a more robust distributed renewable energy system. The project aims to identify and support a variety of solutions tailored to the specific needs of each region.
