On 12th November 2025, Ingo Ball (WIP) and Benedikt Beinhofer (EWO) participated in the online event Heating and Cooling with Renewables in Germany – Developments and Expectations for a Rapid Heat Transition.
The event was jointly organised by POWER-E-COM and the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling (RHC-ETIP). The aim was to highlight national developments in renewable heating solutions and to explore opportunities for replicating approaches for thermal energy communities.
Firstly, Ingo Ball presented the EU-funded POWER-E-COM project, which supports local and regional stakeholders across several European countries to establish and implement energy communities successfully.
Then, Benedikt Beinhofer presented the Oberland region, which serves as a pilot area for the project. He explained how village heating systems are being developed as practical examples of community-based energy solutions. These solutions have been well received in the region and have considerable potential for replication in rural areas with sustainable wood resources available and committed citizens working together to establish locally fuelled heating systems.
